Terror's Children

AUDate: Thursday, April 16, 2009 and Tuesday, April 21, 2009

Synopsis: Pakistan and Afghanistan dominate international coverage of terrorism and radicalism. But beyond the headlines about the Taliban, are human stories of individuals caught between the two tumultuous countries. In “Terror’s Children,” Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid turns her camera on eight Afghan refugee children in Karachi. While most live in Afghan refugee camps, some also live in shacks near garbage dumps, where they scavenge for scraps to sell. Obaid chronicles these children’s plight with stark yet moving filmmaking. The lives of these refugee children shine a light on societal challenges in both their native land and their temporary home.
