Synopsis: PN National partnered with the Muslim Law Student’s Association at Howard Law School to host a Solidarity Fast. The Fast highlighted the meaning and purpose of Ramadan and asked students to dedicate one day to fasting to promote understanding of Muslim culture among the Howard community. The Fast also sought to engender empathy for victims of natural disasters, oppression, disease, poverty, and conflict around the world and inspire students to engage in civic action.
Upon speaking to the diverse crowd present at the event, here is what we found:
Lauren Pruitt, a third-year law student, commented on her fasting experience in support of her Muslim law school friends: “It is hard to fast. I can see how it can be a fulfilling experience.”
Valerie Collins, also a third-year law student, stated why she fasted along with her Muslim peers: “I feel like it gives you respect for the discipline it takes. It is a good window for looking at the dedication it takes.”
