Project Nur National Student Leadership Conference

Project Nur's first national student leadership conference will take place from April 4-6, 2008. The conference will bring together engaged and active students from different campuses across the US to learn pro-active methods to lead actions and campaigns on their own campuses. The conference will emphasize unity, co-existence, reflection and non-violence as necessary qualities for responsible leadership on college campuses.

The conference workshops will highlight the following themes in order to give students the tools to implement and lead student organizations, as well as to mobilize students in order to raise awareness.

  • Student Activism
  • Responsible and effective leadership
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Media Communication tools
  • Peer networking on college campuses and in the community
  • Strategies to mobilize students on campus
  • Event hosting on campus
  • Fundraising for student organizations
  • Diversity and Inclusion methods
  • Organizational management

Why You Should Attend!

  • Network with students interested in a pluralistic Muslim identity and in building bridges between Muslim and non Muslim students
  • Meet activists and leaders in the field of human rights and civil rights. Learn from them their successful strategies in bringing attention to discrimination, racism, women’s abuses and larger conflicts
  • Find opportunities to increase your resources as a student leader on campus
  • Improve your techniques for mobilizing students on campuses on issues taught by activists who have worked on the Darfur conflict and human rights issues in the Middle East
  • Learn to organize and host large and small events on campus that bring attention to your student organization’s work
  • Gather strategies to fundraise for your student organization, on campus and in the community
  • Develop skills in facilitation and conflict resolution to resolve issues within your student organization, as well as with other student members

  • Please send your resume and 500-word essay on why you would like to participate in the conference and how it will benefit you.
  • All expenses will be paid for by Project Nur. This includes travel, lodging and meals.
